She was a wretch of a kitten when my mother first saw her in the animal hospital (hereon referred to as the Thane S.P.C.A). Somebody had brought in a cat which had just littered. The mother died soon enough leaving the little babies to the justice of nature. Fortunately for them the hospital staff were there to take care of them in their formative years.
Kittens like all baby animals are SUPER CUTE!!! However mom seemed to be unable to shift her gaze away from this one tiny kitten...very ugly and dirty and very feeble.
My mother has always been taken with the underdog...the runt of the litter has forever fascinated her, the handicapped animal has always pulled at her heartstrings and she wouldn't hesitate to bring a blind or lame animal dog home, because logically "very few people would want to take them." Thankfully, my father's logic is more of this world, and he forbade it! However even he couldn't resist the teeny weeny little kitten's obvious vulnerable charm, and gave in when mum pursuaded him to let her bring her home...And so began the life of a super cool cat...her meek demure personality in the begnning afforded no clue to her caregivers about the terror she was to become later in life.
Initially she used to be very sick and struggled to survive for a long time. However, lots of medications and warm loving care later, she stabilised and slowly started becoming accustomed to her new surroundings.
And now she has become the heart of my family at home. She has such quirks and such unique personality traits that it is impossible to pass her off as "just another cat" and yes...she is a unicat demolition squad. Anything that is breakable in my parents house, doesn't exist in its original one piece form anymore. And anything that has perhaps escaped her sight, won't live to see the end of the day once she spots it!
Vivacious, with extensive stores of feline energy, and rapidly increasing in girth, is how I can best describe her.

She has been christened Mau Rani Buskus Majumdar-Shome. However I think this borders on animal abuse, so I aptly named her THE MAU!
In forthcoming blog entries I will discuss the evolution and rise of this creature of the night into one of the most remarkable animals I've come across. And Im sure my parents will have something more to say!
